There also has to be one between the eyelets and the opening at the back otherwise the eyelets will pop out when you tighten the corset. Ideally there will be two bones either side of each seam, especially if it is a larger sized corset. The more panels there are in the corset pattern the better as this increases the number of bones and improves the shaping. Beware of corsets with only 3 or 4 panels per side, this suggests a cheaper low quality corset.
Another sign of good quality is the presence of a waist tape, this runs around the waist area of the corset and will either be visible on the inside of the corset or you should be able to feel it through the fabric. Those are the most important corset qualities to look for when you start corset training but make sure above all that you feel comfortable in your corset.
Hi I'm Scarlet, I am the 3rd generation of dressmakers in my family and have been making corsets since I could sew!
