It’s no surprise that jury consultant Ranklin Fitch, known for his behind the scenes illegal methods to stack the jury in his favor, does his research on Nick and all other potential jurors. Only after the jury selection, where Easter seem’s to try and avoid his civil duty, is it revealed that he actually wanted to be on this specific jury. We learn that Nick and his girlfriend Marlee intend to tamper with the jury in order to get a large reward from either the defense or the plaintiff. The couple begins taunting the lawyers with a note saying “jury for sale,” followed by untraceable phone calls. Marlee and Nick prove their seriousness by removing certain jurors, getting the jury sequestered, and by remaining untouchable. Fitch is furious, enraged by the fact that his team always seems to be just a step behind. The defense refuses to play along; they break into Nick’s apartment, and even attack Marlee. After blackmailing several jurors to no avail, Fitch finally realizes that the only way to win the trial may be to give into the couple's non-negotiable offer of 10 million
