Corruption In Suzanne Colin's 'The Hunger Games'

Corruption is a fraudulent behaviour that occurs excessively in the world of Suzanne Colin's novel, "The Hunger Games". This form of activity takes place most often in the Capitol. It's difficult to say if the capitol is corrupt, however citizens of the capitol in the novel do radiate a form of corruption. The capital is undeniably corrupted and advantageous, yet everybody is commendable in their own right. Three meaningful reasons that corroborate to the contention are: Panem is clearly corrupt because of the drastic differences in the treatment of its citizens. Secondly, the capitol forces voyeurism as a sign of control and power to grasp obedience from their districts. The capitol obliges every district to watch the annual hunger games. As The Hunger Games begin, citizens of the capital watched with joy and enthusiasm, with no concern of who’s deceased. In many ways, The Hunger Games is a criticism of reality television which pits contestants against each other in humiliating and often degrading competitions for the benefit of viewers in the capital. A quote said by Haymitch “You really want to know how to stay alive?, You get people to like you”. “Oh. Not what you were expecting. When you’re in the middle of the games and you’re starving or freezing, some water, a knife or even some matches can even make the difference between life and death”. And those things only come from sponsors. And to get sponsors, you have to make people like you.” Moreover, the people of the districts are forced to watch their son’s, daughters, friends and fellow family members murdered to please the audience in the capital. For example, when Rue was killed by the boy from district one, Katniss says (page 286) “I want to do something, right here, right now, to shame them, to make them accountable, to show the capital that there is a part of every tribute they can’t
