Their input needs to be a focal point when gauging media coverage. In a magazine article by Talk of the Nations, Joe Palka Describes the way troops feel about media coverage. “Troops are frustrated with the way that the media is covering the war. Certainly, the administration has, at times, been extremely frustrated about the good things that are going under- reported” (Palka). If the troops feel the coverage reports are not adequate something needs to be done. Troops fighting have a front row seat to all the action and know the facts, good and bad. An article Published by the International Committee of the Fourth International (ICFI) states “Essentially, the US mass media has allowed itself to become little more than a propaganda instrument of American militarism” (Walsh). It seems a little bazar that the media has become such a biased institution of misleading news on military. Distinguishing what is real and truthful seems impossible considering how broad the media outlet is today. Hundreds of newscasts flood the television and all media outlets claiming to be the first with breaking news. Deployment of troops is never easy on the families, but new communications through the media helps families stay in touch with loved ones. Morton G. Ender explains the importance of media to families. “New communication media is an important part of their lives, the impact being most acute during military deployments, especially deployments during war” (Ender 48). The satisfaction of knowing is vital to the families of troops fighting over seas. The media does provide good news for families as well as concerned citizens. Not all reporters are out to manipulate information; some do their best to provide the most accurate news possible.
