The thirst for power in Jack throughout the novel was shown when he does not follow simple rules that are for survival and being recused. Instead he went against those rules. He lead hunters around the island to find meat and while he was hunting the fire burned out, when confronted about letting the fire burn out which was his only responsibility, he got frustrated and mad about Ralph being in charge and having so many rules and refuses to listen to anyone about anything. Jack got mad at Ralph every time he was in the wrong. Corruption is dishonest conduct by those in power. The role of a totalitarian is represented by Jack. We know this because once he becomes leader, he has no thought or care to listen to anyone thoughts or opinions on how to lead. While being a leader he is always obeyed, for example on page 165 Jack gives orders to Henry to get him a drink, and Henry gets him this without hesitation. Another thing that shows Jack is a totalitarian is the image he gives off, it’s like he’s sitting on a throne in kingdom. We see this in Chapter 9 on page 164 when Golden writes “Before the party had started a great log had been dragged into the centre of the lawn and Jack, painted and garlanded, sat there like an idol. There were piles of meat on green leaves near him and fruit, and coco-nut shells full of drink.” The log is like his throne and the meat is the food that everyone lay in front of him.
