Corruption In Julius Caesar Research Paper

Power can lead to the corruption of several things. It can lead to the corruption of a fair system. It can lead people to take over countries, destroying towns, or it can lead to the destruction of government. Lord Acton’s famous words, “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely” ring true in Julius Caesar and the novel Animal Farm. The corruption that power can cause can still happen today in many ways. It happened in Animal Farm and in the play Julius Caesar. Corruption of power leads to either tyranny or dictatorship, both go hand in hand, and yet there are some differences between the two. In the beginning of the novel, the person who sparked the desire of a revolution in the animals was Major. He introduced to the animals “The Beasts of England. (Orwell 9-13)” The animals then decided to take over the farm under the leadership of the pigs who planned it out, although they themselves were unsure when the revolution would occur, thanks to the …show more content…
Tyranny is whenever an individual forces themselves into power where they themselves make all of the decisions. An example being how Napoleon used the puppies in order to instill fear and have all the animals respect him. In Julius Caesar it would be what Cassius attempted to do by getting Brutus to join his cause. Dictatorship is whenever the people elect the person in charge yet the people’s rights and freedoms slowly get taken away. This is similar to how Napoleon and the pigs changed the rules over time without the animals taking notice. In Julius Caesar it is how the conspirators attempted to take over the government of Rome after making Caesar seem like a bad and evil person, in order to get the people on their side. Ultimately failing due to Anthony’s speech at Caesar’s funeral (3.2.73.107). Both, the show and the novel show how easy it can be to get people or animals by being persuasive, like Cassius, Brutus, Antony and
