Power and corruption coexist in the novels “Animal Farm” by George Orwell, and “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding. In “Animal Farm”, the animals are left stranded to look after themselves by the farm owner, and in “The Lord of the Flies”, the boys are stranded on a tropical island. In both situations there is no apparent leader and so the fight for power begins. Power is shown in literature through the characters and their treatment of the other characters. Both Napoleon and Jack portray a form of corrupt leadership. If power falls into the wrong hands, it can become a tool that can be used for selfish acts.
