The Washinton post used a couple of statistics to report the intensity of police brutality in the United States and these figures and diagrams depicted a clear picture of the reality in a way that even the layman can understand the intensity of the issue. With Ted Mellnik, John Muyskens and Amy Brittain contributing to this report on May 30th, they stated that “…at least 385 people shot and killed by police nationwide during the first five months of this year, more than two a day…almost 1 in 6 were unarmed, or carried toys that only appeared deadly…”. The fascinating part was that, the paper presented diagrams that illustrates the statistics in detail. This style of reporting shows that statistical functions are very powerful.…

Each year in the United States on duty police officers shoot between 950 - 1000 innocent people a year. According to an analysis by criminologist Philip Stinson, only 48 officers have been charged with manslaughter since 2005. These officers should not be treated above the law and should be held accountable for their actions. Officers try to justify their actions by claiming they were ‘defending themselves’ or ‘fearing their lives’ but what possible defending would you need against a 12 year old boy with a toy gun [Tamir Rice] or an unarmed 17 year old boy buying Skittles at a convenience store [Trayvon Martin].Imagine knowing your child will never return from the store because they were wrongfully murdered and their murderer gets to not…

Morals are a widely debated topic through the international community, and continues to play an important role in the shaping of society. In the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Hamlet struggles with balance between familial obligations and religious doctrines as he attempts to take revenge on his father’s murderer, his uncle and current king, while remaining morally righteous. Failure to comprehend the subtleties of ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ ultimately bring about his demise and he, ever faithful and rigid in his beliefs, loses in the hedonistic and corrupt politics of court. From the beginning of the play, Hamlet is presented with a dilemma that is emotionally and physically tolling. Instructed by his father’s ghost to kill the current king,…

When police officers are not indicted for their misconduct it sparks protests by citizens and activists’ groups such as “Black Live Matter.” When there is no justice for these cases this is why it continues to increase in the American society today, because police officers know that there are no serious consequences for their actions and are protected by their fellow police officers. Also, what contributes to the lack of justice is the lack of accountability. Police killings are recorded but not when police officers use excessive force to do so. For example, University of South Carolina criminologist Geoff Alpert, who has long studied police use of deadly force, said the FBI 's limited database underscores a gaping hole in the nation 's understanding of how often local police take a life on America 's streets — and under what circumstances.
