Corrigan Care: Theory And Intervention

Corrigan Care is an agency focused on helping parents take care of children with special needs. This agency is located on the heart of Roswell city and officially become a licensed childcare center on July of 2017 to provide services for families who were unable to find a childcare center that would not reject their children. The amount of care centers that are equipped and specialized on helping children with autism and other special needs are limited and expensive. There has also been an increase on the number of children who develop Autism Spectrum Disorder; “It is estimated that up to 1 out of every 68 children born today has some form of ASD. Emmy had Down syndrome and a myriad of other medical and developmental issues (Corrigan Care., n.d.). After Emmy lost her battle, her parents discovered there were not enough childcare centers for children that need special care or early intervention. Corrigan Care decided to provide affordable, developmentally appropriate childcare for special need children, ages 6 weeks through 6 years old, and support for their families and set it as their mission for the agency (Corrigan Care., n.d.).
Theory and Intervention
Corrigan Care along with Emmy’s academy provides every element of this agency mission under one facility to provide early learning programs with a low student to teacher ratios. Through the hierarchy of needs, Corrigan care applies this theory to increase the ability of the clients to reach their goals on learning and obtain the adequate care based on their needs. The Maslow’s theory covers three important aspects used by the special education teacher to create an intervention plan for the children; those aspects are: basic needs, psychological needs, and self-fulfillment needs.

During an interview with Bianca Macias, Assistant Director, she mentioned some of the major areas that Emmy's academy is working on making improvements; such areas included: obtaining more founds through donations and grants, create a better communication with schools to measure improvements of the children; lastly, recruit more personnel to increase the number of people they can serve (B. Mecias, personal communication, April 10, 2018). Having such deficit on resources leads the agency to not be able to create several other programs that could be beneficial to the children and their families. Amy Corrigan added that another main are of improvement is obtaining approval form the Department of early Care and Learning to acquire sensory equipment which is vital for the many children who come to Corrigan Care” (A.
