Others would simply smile in shock or not so happy about my comment. The reactions from each individual were completely different, but I began to somehow embrace these awkward situations and started bragging about what was once an embarrassing fact about myself.…

Even though everyone who goes to Shakopee High School knows about this situation, they do not know how much it has significantly affected my life. My life changed last year in so many ways. In some ways this has given me more opportunities, but in most cases this event has negatively changed everything around me. Worst of all it has made me lose many friends, given me a bad reputation, and has made everyone think that I am someone that I am not. Being just sixteen, I didn’t know how to help him efficiently and felt both powerless and helpless at trying to find adequate resources and services to help him deal with his problems. While I did eventually find counseling services and potential help for him, the effects of his psychological problems were so brutal that he committed suicide. This profound experience of losing a close friend to suicide forced me to develop a strong interest into understanding the role, guidance and motivations that leads people to such extremes. At this point, I had already cultivated the desire to…

We all listened to the same bands, loved the same teen heartthrob, and all had a similar personality. It took losing a core group of friends of mine transitioning into freshman year to show me that it’s okay to be your own person. I will say freshman year was a huge struggle for me to go through without being friends with the people that I had grown closest to in the 8th grade and years prior to 9th grade, but in the long run it has benefitted me more than I could have ever imagined that year. I now am not afraid to be alone sometimes and not always hang out with a group of people or one person every weekend. I’m okay with spending time by myself just relaxing in my room or grabbing some lunch at bread co by myself when I can.…
