Children are often ignored and do not receive the attention that they deserve to get by their parents. When children do not receive the attention that they deserve and need, they often act out with bad behaviors in order to get the attention from their parents. “A large number of children in a household, is another risk factor of harsh punishment and the cause of children acting out” (Brooks-Gunn, MacKenzie, Nicklas, Waldfogel 663). Punishing a child often affects the bonding between parent and child, in turn children lose respect and love for the parent (Hunt, Ten Reasons Not to Hit Your Kid 1996-2016). “L.S. It can have some significant consequences that will affect the child during childhood and can also follow them into their adulthood with depression, anxiety, and ideas that spanking or any physical punishment is the right thing do, when it really is not. There are other alternatives to punishment besides physical punishment. Children learn attitudes and behaviors through observation and imitation of their parent’s or other adult’s actions. Parents have a huge responsibility to hold on their shoulders. Setting good examples of empathy and wisdom is something that all children need to be shown and taught.
