While an additional $400 million ($100 million a year over four years) of funding for local roads will also be allocated through the CHIPS funding formula from a newly established PAVE-NY program for local roads. "It's vital to keep up our local infrastructure in our communities. You know, these rural communities with many many miles of roadway and lower amounts of population has made it important that we provide funding through CHIPS," says Senator Tom O'Mara.
With Corning being an area that thrives on tourism, Corning Mayor Rich Negri, stresses the importance of having a solid infrastructure. "We are doing a lot more, I am getting tremendous phone calls, people stopping me on the street thanking me for whats going on in the streets of Corning. All of that benefits the tourist season," says Mayor Negri.
