Corner Store Analysis

Decent Essays
The initial reaction to the story about the corner store was that the corner store did not take checks or the woman has paid with a check that did not work in the past. I originally agreed with Irving's initial interpretation's but I now agree with the couple if the white husband was able to pay with checks at the same corner store I think the store clerk was being racist and would not let the wife pay with a check because of the color of her skin. The store clerk would not agree with the couple's interpretation because it would make the clerk and the store look bad. In today's society it is easy to explore other cultures through things like music and dance. People are able to learn a lot about someone's culture by watching and listening.

The four retailers that I used for my comparison are Target, Dillons, Hyvee, and Walmart. The items I chose to compare at these retailers are 2% milk, Eggs, Turkey, Hot dog buns, Ketchup, Mayo and Brownie mix. I found it interesting to see the different variety from store to store as well as the price differences. The first retailer I went to was Target. Target would be considered a supercenter because they provide some grocery items as well as clothes, home décor, and toys.…

Many dynamics and traditions are linked with sabar drumming, meaning there is more than enough research to be done on the performance genre. Patricia Tang, author of Masters of the Sabar, spent numerous years researching Wolof Griot percussionists in Senegal. Proposing that I travel to Senegal myself, I will be doing preliminary research for two months with a budget of $10,000. Specifically, I will be researching the answer to this question: How complex is the meaning of family to Wolof géwël? I propose that the family dynamic is essential to how a sabar player learns, creates, and passes down knowledge.…

I was raised in a rural town in the Mississippi delta called Ruleville. Most people would consider it as the country because it is an extremely small town sounded by open fields. Most of the fields are used for farming and some of the others are just private land.…

One culture that particularly caught my attention was the Navajo tribe. I have Navajo ancestors, and even live near many Navajo people. Yet, as I read about their lifestyles, I realized how little I know about them. I think that the musical category that best represents their culture is art/classical. Art music, as we learned in week 3, is professionally made, but its meaning is more important than it is to become widely known.…
