Being an expert at Corner Back
I have been playing cornerback since the day I started playing football, so that’s 13 years. Football is a mental game, like chess. There are pieces that do their part and then there are pieces that impose their will on the board. The basic of being an expert at corner is first backpedaling. Backpedaling is the most useful technique cornerbacks use to cover receivers. You want to use backpedaling to keep yourself in front of the receiver so you can read his routes and be able to make a play on the football. Second is your stance. When in your stance you want to be comfortable. You want to have a slight bend in your knees and at the waist. You want to have

In zone coverage there is cover 2, cover3, and cover 4. In cover 2 you want to be able to cover the flats of the field. In cover 3 and 4 you have must cover a deep half. You don’t let any body outside or behind you. When playing zone never sit in one spot. Move around your area and find work. Look to see where the quarterback eyes are looking and flow that way. Because if he is looking your way there is a receiver in your area of the zone. And last Don't Over pursue and Leave Your Zone Open.
If you get beat, everyone can see. If you get scored on, everyone knows. That's the difficulty of playing corner. It’s tough when you get beat. You have to be able to come back mentally. Sometimes the offense is going to win, but you have to be able to be level-headed and not get too upset when they do catch the ball. My strategy is just to always compete. Even if they catch 10 balls on me, I make sure that they have to fight for every one of those. That's worked for me.
To be a great cornerback, even the most gifted players must work at their craft. From backpedaling and coming out of your breaks, to ball skills, you always must be at a high level of performance if you want to play great. Training is the backbone of any athlete's performance. The battles on the field are won far before the football games are

“You play the way you practice” (Warner). This quote is from football legend, Glenn “Pop” Warner, creator of plays like the forward pass. Football was derived from rugby. As this sport evolved over the years, so did their fans and players. With this information I have also had a look at some video footage that was taken during a training session for my schoolboy’s team. It clearly demonstrated my lack of selective attention, I do not pre scan the pitch and can not therefore see the available passes to my team mates. However, this is the information which I needed to selectively attend on before receiving the ball. Instead I respond only to the movement of the approaching defender and the call from my team mate, without selecting the important information of the distance of the defender; if I had selected this piece of information along with my pre scan, I would have realised I had more time to improve my body position and control the ball. It clearly shows me panicking on the ball and producing a poor pass to my team mate.…
