Cornell Cooperative Extension Case Study

Through the collaborative efforts of the BOCES Wellness Team and Cornell Cooperative Extension, two water bottle filling stations were installed at the White Sulphur Springs School. The Wellness Committee has been working with SueAnn Boyd, Healthy Schools Coordinator at Cornell Cooperative Extension for the past eight months to bring a number of healthy options to the students and staff at BOCES. Although the water stations were just installed, the school is already seeing a positive impact. The students are excited to drink the cold filtered water and fill their water bottles.

“We are really excited about our partnership with Cornell Cooperative Extension, it has opened a lot of doors for our students and staff,” said Ashlea Prouty, Coordinator of the BOCES Wellness Team, “Having the water filling station is such a benefit for everyone. Cornell Cooperative has used the grant to also purchase salad bars for aforementioned districts and is planning to use the funds to increase physical activity throughout the school day, implement a food waste management system as well as a recycling management system.

“I think this is a great initiative. I have enjoyed working with the staff at each of the districts. They are very receptive and passionate in what they do,” said SueAnn Boyd, Healthy Schools Coordinator at Cornell Cooperative Extension, “I would love to see each of the schools increase the number of water filling stations throughout their district.
