I was very intrigued by Cormack's ideas on Ideology. He was able to take a complex and philosophical question and break it down to analyze and deliver a definition. His ideas shed light on many other realizations of our society and how individuals are shaped by it.

I believe ideology is usually not created but developed. We sometimes think that our ideas are our own, but rather we are exposed to certain belief systems and values that direct us to certain points of views. Gees ideas on primary discourse are interesting,I think when we are introduced to ideas in early stages of our life, whether it be at home or institutions, we become acclaimed to these ideas and begin to see them as our own. Cormack describes dominant discourse as the discourse created by the dominant group in our society. It is apparent to me that the influential in society have a significant influence on the way we think. Media is powerful too to steer and even shape public opinion. Lastly, I found the writings of Gee interesting, but most importantly I found Cormack's writings to be truly thought

The Political Spectacle is the idea of how politicians can manipulate public opinions and actions by diverting attention from more pressing social and political issues such as poverty, climate change, and racial inequalities. Many politicians take advantage of social constructs to draw attention to foreign threats. By doing so, they skillfully lessen the attention on domestic concerns. External threats tend to appeal to broader audiences and feed the fears of less informed individuals, whereas domestic problems seem to be focused on smaller sub-sets of individuals in a society.
