The Road takes place in the United States. The reader can assume the story begins somewhere near the Appalachian mountain range. It is a post apocalyptic world created by a disaster never clearly stated in the book. All the information given about that day was it being described as “the day the sky flashed”. The disaster in itself caused many deaths but not enough to wipe out the entire human race. This is the story of two survivors.
The two main characters of the story include a man referred to as “papa” probably I his 40s. The other character is a young boy around of the age of 10. The reader assumes they are father and son. The mission of the two characters is to reach the East Coast in order to find a warmer climate and a greater abundance
