Three learning theories that will be addressed in this discussion are as follows, self-directed and optimized, transformative, and critical reflection. Chen (2014) investigates “adult learners are self-directed and their learning is optimized when their experience is recognized and utilized in the learning process” (p. 407). Adult students are not 'clear slates' and their background turns into the medium through which substance is found out and in which to rethink new objectives to achieve (Chen, 2014). Self-directed is appropriate for an adult due to the connection that is made with their life experiences, the adult is able to plan and implement learning based upon their desire and initiation to learn. Self-directed is inappropriate for children because children rely upon the teacher as the caretaker to their education and implementation of it.…

My plan to foster core transformational competencies over the next 3-5 years would be to go more in the direction of task behavior. This would be most benefical because it supports the defining of roles, business goals, planing, organization and monitoring of work which is crucical within the timespan( Rabarison et al., 2013). In healthcare making sure to distinguish clear roles will allow people in their position to focus and become successful and confident in performing the task at hand. My plan would center around professional seminars to help with communications and professional development for those in management roles. There would also be projects in place that will allow them to gain real like experience to put their training into…

When the adult student is presented with the unknown, they tend to draw back and feel inadequate. They are encouraged from the start of the course to ask questions and not to be ashamed when they are not able to perform an assignment on the first try. They are given the opportunity to celebrate their success when they accomplish the task with their other classmates; thus, they are encouraged to continue to the next task. They control how long it takes them to complete a task; subsequently, this helps the student to effectively attribute their success to their capability, effort and knowledge (Merriam & Bierema, 2014). Attitude sets the stage for both the educator and adult students to attain their learning goals; therefore, it is vital that each course taught motivates the students to reach for the next level.…

However, influencing skills are used to help clients change their personal construct, behavior, coping skills, and decision making by using confrontation, feedback, self-discourse, focusing the narrative, eliciting and reflecting meaning, interpretation, and reframing skills. In Part III, Senge discussed in detail the four core disciplines for building the learning organization: personal mastery, mental models, shared vision and team learning. As to personal mastery, Senge emphasized that the primary asset of organizations is people and that their potential needs can be tapped to the advantage of the organization. Personal mastery is about continuously learning to live creatively rather than reactively and recognizing where one is going and why. Thus, people with personal mastery have an underlying sense of purpose, they know how to work with forces of change rather than resist change, they are inquisitive and though they are individuals, they feel more connected to other people and processes. As such, people may see work as sacred (i.e., of value in itself for enhancing lives) rather than instrumental (i.e., to earn the money to live a full life outside work).…
