Core Explanatory Theory

Something new that I learned while reading was a better explanation of what the term “theory” means, then I came across with the term “core explanatory theories” which had no idea what it meant what so ever. So, I was able to learn that core explanatory theories are theories that are firmly established through accumulation of a substantial body of supporting evidence and have no competitors such as cell theory, periodic law, etc. In other words, I learned that the term theory can mean and represent different meanings depending on what field the term theory is being used, for example it can be a scientific field vs a psychological field where psychologists use the term as a shorthand for the set of ideas and beliefs that forms a child’s conceptual framework for explaining phenomena and mechanisms. I can also do this by asking my students what previous knowledge they have with the term “theory”, and any other scientific term so I can be able to understand how much of a previous understanding they have with scientific terms. Also, after learning a detailed description of the goals with science education I am better aware of how important it is to motivated students into pursuing and understanding science. I plan on doing this by always making my best effort to design fun and interesting science activities where I can capture their full attention so my students are eager to participate. Also, I plan on creating hands on activites where students are able to interact with one another instead of having to read from an open textbook. I want my students to be able to explore through their senses in order to develop a deeper understanding of science. For example, if we are learning about rocks and minerals, I would rather have the touch and feel rocks instead of having to learn from a
