t begins with the knowledge that the CST standardized test stopped in 2013, and has since been replaced with a Core Curriculum Standards based assessment by Smarter Balance Assessment Consortium; in acronym's form SBAC, and for a modified version the CMA, and California Alternative Assessment (CAA), instead of CAPA. Each of these has embedded and unembedded accommodations which help replicate some of the alternative instructional needs for student populations with testing accommodations. However it is good to note that prior to a student being referred to the CAA, or CMA an IEP team must meet specific criteria after the first assessment year (3rd grade), except under specific conditions as specified by the Department of Education. 17 States
