Core Beliefs Of Happiness

Improved Essays
One of my main core beliefs is happiness. Happiness is generally interpreted as staying faithful, true, and devoted to yourself. A good quality one could have is being happy. One could make it through anything as long as you are truly content with yourself. With that being said, it is widely quoted that, “The key to being happy is knowing you have the power to choose what to accept and what to let go.” If you only focus on the negative aspects of life, you will never truly be happy. There will always be ups and downs in life, but you have to pick yourself back up!

Many things can bring us happiness in life. For me, talking to friends and spending time with family brings me joy. You can easily make someone’s day brighter by spreading happiness

Charles Spurgeon one said “It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness.” Happiness is not something that just happens to you. In, “The New Science of Happiness,” Claudia Wells discusses 3 great ways to become more happy. By getting more pleasure out of life, becoming more engaged in what you’re doing, and finding ways to make your life more meaningful, Wells explains these actions can greatly influence your happiness levels. Savoring each and every sensory drop from any given moment will increase your gratitude towards life's seemingly mundane interactions. Which brings us to the large topic of gratitude which Wells, in conjunction with studies by psychologist Robert Emmons, explains that “Gratitude exercises can do more than life one’s mood… they improve physical health, raise energy levels, and, for patients with neuromuscular disease, relieve pain and fatigue.”…

Happiness Such a powerful word in American culture Much of my life, I had thought of happiness as a rather nebulous term. I also had some impressions that because I was fortunate enough to have been born in a first world country, happiness was just part of the package. That general disengaged and not important perspective changed about a decade ago when my wife and I learned that she had cancer. I needed to do some inner reflection for strength and direction.…

We all have different notions about what defines success and happiness, one of these notions is the American Dream. The American Dream is the idea that every person has an equal opportunity to achieve success in life but also achieve prosperity with their hard work, determination, and initiative. In America this dream is an idea or goal a person aspires to achieve, it describes the type of life we wish for as well as the type of life we want to live. For example, a friend’s American Dream is to have a big house with nice cars, a family, and a job they would get paid well but also a place they would love going to every day. The American Dream should lead to happiness for those who achieve it but sometimes it’s the complete opposite.…

My take on happiness deals more with perspective and the basic goods. Meaning, we live in a world where approximately 3.1 million children die from hunger each year (worldhunger.org). The simple fact that my myself and family do not have to worry about where our next meal is coming from is a blessing which keeps me happy. Therefore, knowing that I’m in a good place in the world and knowing that I have the basic things to survive like food, water, and shelter, keep me happy. One could say that I was lucky to have been born in a country that offers so much.…

Scientifically, happiness is satisfaction, positive feelings, and a lack negative feelings (Porter 459). Most of us can agree with this statement and acknowledge that they feel the most happiness in these conditions, but what exactly is happiness? “For if happiness is what people strive for, one needn’t waste time trying to figure out what makes people happy. One must only look at what people do” (Porter 460). We choose to work and make money to benefit our happiness.…

Myers and Jeeves give four ways to find happiness. The first was to “Break the Vicious Cycle of Negative Thinking.” Smiling really does help a person feel better and they appear brighter, for this reason, positive thoughts should be thought of and acted upon more. The second way to find happiness is to “Compare Ourselves with Those Less Fortunate” This allows the “unhappy” to see others and see that in the hospital they have blessings that other people including them would have never seen as blessings.…
