Cordelia's Sacrifice In Oedipus The King

The character that I see as one who values their sacrifices is cordelia. She is a fictional character from the novel king lear. She chooses what matters the most in her eyes and mind. She did not let anyone else guide her decision. The example of her sacrifice is the moment she chose to speak out for her father. She refused to compliment her love to its full potential. She knew what she valued the most and that made her decision full of meaning. Her father asked her and her two sisters to describe the love that each had for him. Each sister said the same thing, but cordelia kept some of her love reserved for her husband or the love of her life. She had to take this decision since this was her truth. Her father did not take this very well so he …show more content…
Although her father banished her and and kicked her out of her home, she did not feel any resentment towards him. Later on in the story the father ends up in ruins and poor. He is left without any money, and he is left with no resources. The only true daughter that kept her word until the end was her even though she had decided to keep some of her love reserved for her husband. This words that she spoke of she kept it. The small amount of love that she had promised her father was bigger than both of her sister’s love combined. The sacrifice of keeping her word was the greatest value of her decision. She was determined to comply with her word, so she did keep it. She kept her love for herself, her husband, and her father. This overall idea of limiting one's love for the people that she feels are worthy of being kept. Her father was the conflict that let her succeed, and she did see the value of her determination. The worth value of each sacrifice that she made since the beginning until the end. The character sacrificed her own well being in order to keep her promise to herself.
