CREEPY is one way to describe “Coraline”. When I think of PG rated movies I imagine a pleasant family movie with singing and laughter. This is not one of those films. It's more like the children’s version of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, of course without the actual killings, but still the presence of ghost spirits of children who didn’t realize the dangers in time. And as always the curious and adventurous ones wind-up dead. This movie might have a familiar feel because the director, Henry Selick, also worked on “The Nightmare Before Christmas” in 1993, another creepy movie that should be about Christmas. He worked with the writer, Neil Gaiman, in 2009 to cast his movie “Coraline”. The main character is Coraline Jones played by Dakota Fanning, who is no newbie when playing lead roles. Her mother and father in the animated series, Mel Jones and Charlie Jones, was …show more content…
The kid feels unappreciated and alone so she decides to act out and find ways to get her parents to notice. What better way to get your parents to notice you when you’ve gone missing. When Coraline enters the other world, her whole journey is like a circus act from Miss April Spink (Jennifer Saunders) and Miss Miriam Forcible (Dawn French) who put on a trapeze act for her to Mr. Sergei Alexander Bobinsky(Ian McShane) who put on a rat show for her. Then she find her fantasy parents who seem to be the ring leaders of the whole show and realize there is no place like home. Coraline realizes her mistake and tries to go home, but she can’t leave this nightmare. “Coraline” is definitely not a movie for younger ages to see. Yes, the characters are funny shaped, but the movie allude to imprisonment and sexual images of older women. It is also a lot going on visually during each scene which can be hard to follow even for some adults. Overall, this film should be for ages 10 &

When you think about a horror film, usually there is a lot of blood and gore involved but this film stayed away from the norm and took more of a realistic approach. There were no special effects to try and scare the viewers or anything of that nature. The director used real life events that could occur to grab the attention of the audience in a creepy way. There were a lot of dark undertones used as well as spooky sounds and an eerie soundtrack. In looking at the cinematography, there was a lot of fading in and out of the camera to exaggerate the horror in the film.…

As the films are animated they do not appeal to an older audience, however the themes interest parents who may have to take their children to see the film, increasing the film's revenue. Both films are classified as PG, thus allowing subtle adult material to be shown through the trailer, such as in Paranorman where Norman’s friend shows up at his house wearing a “Jason’s hockey mask” (a reference from the popular horror movie Friday the 13th), this entices an older audience to go see it in theatres or hire the DVD. Both trailers advertise the films without revealing too much about the storyline, therefore arousing the audience's curiosity which in turn may entice them to find out what happens in each film. This is a primary marketing technique to encourage viewers to watch or purchase the film. Both trailers were shown in Event cinemas, and had been advertised in numerous ways.…

he Shawshank Redemption” is one of those movies that I wished I’d seen on the big screen. Thanks to videos, however, all was not lost. Whether intentional or not, this film is about grace and hope, as well as the redemption that can occur even in the most dark and degrading corners of our world. Conceived and produced by the secular film community, this engrossing film stands as one of the most entertaining, thought-provoking dramas of this century.…

While Wendy, as a mother, is respected as an authority, she is shut away from the adventure, separated from the boy’s adventures in Barrie’s book. She is underground, and rarely sees the outside; a literal placement of Wendy beneath the boys of the island to express her subordinate nature to the dominant patriarch: “Really there were whole weeks when, except perhaps with a stocking in the evening, she was never above ground,” (Barrie 41). Barrie’s emphasis on Wendy being the mother figure who is positioned below ground, physically separates her from the rest of Neverland: Wendy does not get to go on adventures with the Lost Boys, she remains at home, cooking, sowing, and putting the boys to bed: “I suppose it was all especially entrancing to…

Most of the teenagers or kids will more prefer this movie than adult because story lines of this film have some fantasy and humor content to let them imagine more and put themselves into the characters of the movie. They will imagine that they are one of the characters inside the movie to have some adventure thinking while they chased by monster and killed them. Furthermore, they will also think that they have the power of magic to create something in their real life. Some kids who have antisocial thinking will much more enjoy this film because they will put themselves into the characters as R.L. Stine to create monsters in his childhood to accompany him. This film is not only targeting the teenagers and children, it also has horror but humor part for every audience without any age…

Chesterton, Coraline) to “If you don’t know where you are going, any road will take you there” (Lewis Carroll, Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland). These two stories are very similar to each other, but still very different. Both are amazing stories are about a young girl who is led into a strange world where they have to challenge all odds in order to make it home. While these stories are very much alike, Coraline by Neil Gaiman has a dark twist that counteracts the wholesome dreamlike wonder…
