I have recently finished reading the graphic novel version of Neil Gaiman’s classic book “Coraline”. The book is a suspenseful horror novel. It has amazing illustrations and interesting characters. This book is about Coraline a curious young girl who had recently moved into a new house. With her urge to explore she found a door in her house that led to another house similar to her one, almost exactly the same. The only problem was that there was another version of her mother and father. This book is about a young girl main character. Coraline is curious, adventurous and brave. She has long blond wavy hair, hazel eyes and is a pre-teen. Another character very important to the story is the “other mother”. She is the main antagonist of the …show more content…
The first reason being the plot of this book is fairly complex and needs to be explained in depth for you to get the whole picture. In a graphic novel, the pictures help but the lack of words used is hard to get into the details. Another reason is my personal preference of the conventional book over graphic novels. I prefer to imagine how the characters look and let my imagination run wild. In a graphic novel, you already know how everything looks and it restrains my ideas of how I think it would actually look. The reason I chose this graphic novel was because about two years ago I read the original Coraline book and really enjoyed it. As a child, I also watched the movie version and was really scared of it. I thought to have so many memories of the story, it would be interesting to see it be told in a different way.

For the option of making a scene for the novel, I decided on option two. Option two was to create an alternate ending for the novel. The original ending is a picture of the house and the garden at night and is the first time Coraline had a good night sleep in a while. The alternate ending I chose is Coraline, her mom, dad and cat having a picnic in the garden. I chose that as my ending to show that after all that Coraline went through to get her parents back she is still happy especially now that she has them. I chose them having a picnic because I think

Sometimes, in sports or in life in general, there are favorites and underdogs. There is a general consensus that the favorite team or player will win but sometimes it`s the underdog that wins and receives all the honor related with that win. This is very similar to what I read about Seabiscuit and what I watched in the video of Jason McElwain. Some people have the ability to transcend their underdog status (ie. Red from Seabiscuit and Jason) and create something very special.…

A general misperception is that when movies that are based on a novel, or graphic novel, are made with have the same storyline, characters and archetypes. However, it is my humble opinion that movies made from books are drastically different to the original. The graphic novel Coraline was written by Neil Gaiman. As it was extremely popular, it’s no wonder, Henry Selick later turned it into a movie. There are so many different literary devices in the two versions that it provides an opportunity to convey that these changes have been made in order to appeal to the target audience.…
