Copper Mountain: A Short Story

Great Essays
It was the third day of our stay at the condo in Copper Mountain. One of the great things about staying in a condo was you don’t have to wake up at 5:30. So, when I woke up at 8:00, I had time to play my new 3DS game, Mario and Luigi Dream Team. I was just about to face the boss at the bottom of the volcano, but then my dad said we have to go. My whole family started with a warm up going up American Flyer and going down Coppertone. We did a bunch of runs together, then when we had lunch at T-Rex grill, My sister was tired, so we split up girls and boys. The girls went back down to the condo while we decided to go up to the top of the mountain.
It was just after noon, and we were having fun in the middle of Copper Bowl. My dad, my brother and

“The only place you can go is East Village. Are you really that cold?”
“Yes, I am. I’m also kind of dizzy.”
“Ok, just make sure you phone is on so I can call you.”
“Ok, bye.”
“Bye.”
I went down Andy’s Encore all the way down to East Village. As I was skiing down the mountain, I began to feel like I was going to throw up. By now I was shivering with cold. I’d never think of the cold the same way again.
Speeding down the last run, I was finally warming up. I stopped like a car that slammed on the brakes. Then, I took off my skis, put them on the rack, and hobbled to the nearest building, which happened to have a fireplace. As I sat down right next to it, I relaxed and the nausea feeling finally went away. The fireplace felt like a sun to me. It felt so good.
I was playing Smashy Road driving The Pro and I had just got 5 stars when I got a call from my mom asking where I was.
“Uh, I’m at East Village.”
“Ok. Let me see… Yeayeah. Ok. So Heather, (the mom of the family we’re staying with) is going to meet you at the top of Super Bee. ( A chairlift) She has a black coat on, ok?”
“Mm-kay. Whats going to happen once we get

So, I got my skis back on, (After I had finished my game on Smashy Road) and waited in line to get on Super Bee. It’s a six person chairlift, so the line goes fast. I sit on the end, and look at all the trees with shiny beads on them. It’s truly an amazing sight. I look up, and the end of the chairlift is as far away as the horizon sail.
This might take awhile… I thought.

I was at the top of Super Bee, and it was cold. I’d swear it’s below-100 ℉. <---(hyperbole). I started waiting for Heather, standing up. But then I had to sit sit down because a person can’t stand up for that long. So, I sat in the snow watching people come up the chairlift. I looked for the black coat. It basically went like this for 20 minutes:Oh, there’s one! Wait no, that’s an old man. Is that it? Uh, nope, ok. It was like
Finally, I saw Heather in a black coat. By then my hands were super cold. I kept trying to wiggle them around to warm them up, but in

After being at school for what seemed like forever, I put on my boots and headed to the ski lift as I looked at the snow glow in the cold February sun. As I waited in line, John was grabbing ice balls the size of my hand, then throwing them at my back. Without anything to throw back him, I felt as helpless as an amputee in a war-zone. Even though Jack was next to me checking my ticket, he did not seem to care that someone was throwing ice balls at me. He didn’t even care to look at my lift ticket which explains how I got on the lift.…

The thought of accidentally dropping my poles enters my mind as I observe lost items in the snow below. As we ascend, more of the slope enters my field of vision. At first, the skiers and snowboarders in my view move at a leisurely pace as they reach the bottom; but as altitude increases, so does the skill and speed of the people coming down. The added elevation diminishes the number of trees providing protection from the bitter wind that starts hitting us like pins and needles. I pull my bandanna up and fit my goggles to the shape of my helmet, in an attempt to block out the frigid breeze.…
