Coppelia is based on a story by E.T.A. Hoffman. It is a three-act ballet that tells the light-hearted story of the mysterious Dr Coppélius who owns a beautiful life-sized mechanical doll.
The show had original choreography by Arthur St. Léon, Coppélia is staged with additional choreography by Janek Schergen.
The second performance that i had watched was a Chinese dance from Poi Ching School, Hwa Chong Chinese Dance Alumni and Xin Yi Dance Company showcase the unique beauty and strength of classical, folk and contemporary Chinese dance on stage.(esplanade n.a)

The dancers had also used their body movement to mimic the ocean and plants to create depth in the space.
2.force is applied to dance to accentuate the weight, attack, strength, and flow of a dancer’s movement.
In the coppelia performance the dancers has showed different amount of energy during each scene parallel to the emotions that they are trying to potray. This could be seen from their sharp turn and free-flow movements to show happiness or a heavy, bound movement to show confusion.
On the other hand poetry in dance had a very contemporary feeling to it making the “dance norm” almost inapplicable. They used mismatched movements but they are still able to create a nice rhythm and energy to it and somehow made it beautiful. And example would be the dancer carrying a bed sheet and making it look heavy, this did not make sense at first but the dancer was trying to put across that her depression was so bad it felt impossible to get out of bed..
Overall the two performances was great, they both had some similarities and differences.i particularly enjoyed poetry in dance for its contemporary dance, it required a lot of thinking in understanding the performance which was very enjoyable on the other hand coppelia was targeted more towards children as there was excessive use of penamine which was as
