My physical anxiety responses are difficult to control, since I can't generally make a move. For example, I tend to have a vexed stomach at whatever point I have a major exam coming up. The main thing I can do about my stomachache is heading off to the healing center, which would…
The most important concept in module 3 is Coping Behavior because it taught me that: 1) you can cope with a behavior because it is not far from your preferred style and 2) it is more than likely harder to cope with a behavior because you have moved further away from your preferred style. Coping can produce negative or positive behavior and will impact your work positively or negatively. Coping helps you process certain situations that may be more stressful than normal, but it depends on if you are an adaptor or an innovator which will determine a successful or unsuccessful outcome. Both adaptors and innovators will, at some point, have issues with coping. As an adaptor, I do not cope well in environments that may go from a minimum change to…
1. Introduction Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is described by the Diagnostic Statistical Manual as a psychological impairment that causes ‘significant distress’ to an individual’s ordinary interactions and functioning due to exposure to ‘actual or threatened death, serious injury or sexual violation’ (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). It is estimated that approximately 5-10% of the Australian population suffer or have suffered from PTSD at some point in their lives (Centre for Posttraumatic Mental Health, 2013). The traumatic events that most likely lead to a development of PTSD in the Australian population are physical assault and rape (Creamer et al., 2001). Military personnel are particularly unique in this instance in that…

Coping mechanisms in the presence of strain are also of vital importance within GST. As such, recent studies have also examined the variety of factors which condition the effects of strain on criminal coping. Such an array of factors as deviant beliefs and peer deviance (Mazerolle and Maahs, 2000) and personal resources and traits (Agnew et al. 2002 ) have been individually examined.…
There are three different ways to handle anxiety disorder, behavioral, humanistic, and cognitive. Behavior is learning from ones surroundings, humanistic is making choices from one’s self, and cognitive is how one thinks. A Behavioral Psychologist may imply that Jake learns from his surroundings. The whole concept is learned through classical and operant conditionings.…
Depression is a very serious problem that many people suffer from, with me sadly being one of them. I thought of one reliable and useful solution for my depression, the solution is not costly and I have experienced it before, with the solution being therapy. Therapy is not that costly and, having done it before I know it has helped in the past. My depression is a little odd as I have had it sense I was around five when something happened to me that had scarred me for life. Almost anything can trigger me to go into an "episode", sometimes even just losing an item that is special to me can set it off.…

Three parts of the coping brain are: thinking, feeling, and self protection. The thinking brain enables us to judge and plan what type of coping response we use when we are stressed or upset. Our feeling brain describes sensations and impulses and the self protection brain keeps us alive and free from danger. Change is a part of life, and everyone faces it sooner or later. Accepting an unexpected change can be one of the most difficult challenges in life.…
There are many techniques and strategies for managing anxiety, but my personal plan on how to manage or deal with anxiety are: 1. Eating healthy food - Healthy lifestyle is very important in our daily life. The healthier your body is the better it works, and the better it works the less you'll encounter anxiety. 2. Meditating - anxiety require an opportunity to slow down…
I think I tend to talk to others for advice for problems because in one way it releases my tense feelings inside of me but also I doubt myself a lot. I think maybe by having someone else giving me another perspective or advice it will guide me to a better choice. By taking to a handful of people, I can view all different points of view on what they have to say and weigh each option. Another strategy I use is taking action to improve the problem. Taking action to the situation is sometimes the best thing for me, especially if the situation is somewhat in my control.…
Upon Geoffrey's (voluntary) admission to the unit I would introduce myself to him as his key nurse. I would explain to Geoffrey the role of a key nurse, which is to offer him specialist information, follow his progress and be there to answer any questions or concerns he may have during his stay in the unit. Next I would give Geoffrey a tour of the unit and assign him a bed also outlining the rules to be followed while a patient in the unit. Geoffrey would also be given an information booklet, wrist band and would be advised to have any cash over the value of fifty euro to be placed in the units safe.…
The two assessments that were administered to the client were the Gambler Addiction Index (GAI) and the Coping Response Inventory Adult Form (CRI). The purpose of the GAI is to measure the severity and intensity of an individual’s gambling addiction. In addition to, the assessment measures the strong impulses an individual has to gamble and the harmful consequences of gambling. The rationale of selecting this assessment for the client, Alan, was because in the previous session, Alan mentioned an accident that occurred while drinking and instead of administering another alcohol abuse assessment, the GAI provided a scale to measure alcohol use and abuse. Furthermore, individuals with gambling addiction lie or try to minimize their addiction problem; however, the GAI includes a truthfulness scale that measure how truthful the individual was while completing the assessment.…
The “Family Stress and Coping Theory” explains why some families grow from stressful events and others deteriorate. The ABC-X Theory was created by Reuben Hill to explain how families react to stress. “A” represents the stressor, stressors include sudden events such as economic hardship, divorce, abuse, a family members abusing substances, and the like. The “B” is the internal and external family resources, such as a church or friends (families with better social structures and ties tend to fare better in stressful events). The “C” is the perception the family has on the stressor.…
