Copeland Epic Hero

In 75 years, the American Ballet theatre had never appointed an African American to their company. Since barriers are meant to be broken, in 2015 Misty Copeland was the first to break that boundary. Her amazing accomplishment was seen and admired by many. An epic hero represents a brave and noble character who admired for great achievements. Odysseus is an epic hero that shares traits with Copeland such as having great strength and courage. Misty Copeland embodies the characteristics of an epic hero because she is capable of deeds of great strength and courage, because she is a national hero, and because she almost receives supernatural help.
A trait that Misty Copeland possesses is that she has capable deeds of great strength and courage. Copeland went above and beyond throughout her whole life to be a dancer. Although her home life was getting difficult, “ Yet Copeland refused to let go of her career” (“Misty”). She used to live with her teacher because she lived in an abusive home, but they made her go back to live with her mother. Living with her mother did not stop her, so she kept going places to dance just so she could achieve what she had dreamed of. Copeland had great strength and courage when her home life was getting in the way of her developing career. When she started getting past those obstacles, people around the world were starting to notice. Getting up to her goal and getting recognized like that did not come easily, so she had some help along the way. Because of her great representation of epic hero traits, Misty Copeland portrays as an epic hero to dancers, people of her culture, and others
