“While you judge me by my outward appearance I am silently doing the same to you, even though there’s a ninety- percent chance that in both cases our assumptions are wrong” (Goodrich). COP for short, is known as Community Oriented Policing; where the community and the police work together for one common goal, whose end result is to provide not only a safer living environment for the residents, but perhaps a safer working environment for the officers patrolling their beat. Perhaps in many affluent communities, where violent crime rates are relatively low, this idea of “working together for a common goal” is easier to achieve as opposed to places like Ferguson, Missouri. Let’s take a look at what makes this so called urban community; riots, boarded up houses, violent crimes, and police officers responding with lights and sirens to neighborhoods where perhaps shots were fired. The cruel reality striking each and every member of this community is real; is not something scripted into the main theme of an action movie, but rather the living ghost that hunts kids on their way to school, parents on their way to work, and the police officers who patrol the streets on their glossy marked cars, labeled “Ferguson Police”. Recently, Ferguson has been headlining many of the major news broadcast and news papers in the United States; but is it the community’s fault? Or are the sworn members of this police department doing something wrong?
