Mario Fernandez Case

Cooper Agency received an incoming client assignment on May 13, 2016. Mario Fernandez, has been assigned as a client by Judge Christopher Jones of Henrico County General District Court. Mario Fernandez has been living in the United States of America for the past five years and has been classified as an illegal alien whom entered the country illegally. Born and raised in Mexico, Mario has encountered severed depression caused by homesickness, and the lack of family culture. Mr. Fernandez works manual labor jobs that pay him under the table to be able to support the family he has left back home, in Mexico. Fernandez has admitted of suffering from depression due to his on-going battle with loneliness. Mario’s biggest setback is leaving his family back home without means to visit. Fernandez support system consists of a church group that he attends weekly near his home. A limitation may occur because as a Hispanic Woman, men are not supposed to seek help from woman, such action makes them look inferior. “Gender roles for individuals of Latin descent are steeped in tradition and religion” (Hays & Erford, 2014, pg. 321). Mario may feel as if, he should not be seeking advice from a female, regardless of the educational level. If this issues arises, I would remind Mario of the court requirement that he was assigned to the agency, but if after two sessions Mario cannot let go of the fact that I am a female counselor, I would then, assign Mario to a male counselor in the agency, allowing Mario to receive the help that he
