I have some exciting news. I'm applying for the Coolidge Scholarship which is a scholarship that covers the costs of all four years of undergraduate education for students who are crazy overqualified in everything. I'm not one of them unfortunately, but there are a bunch of smaller awards attached to the scholarship that I am aiming for, including the awards/titles "Coolidge Senator" and "Coolidge Finalist" for good candidates but not the ultimate winners. So I would love to have you as my recommender. I have to credit your 9th grade English class for the majority of my interests and academic drive; it was what got me to first enjoy writing rather than to see it as another task or assignment, and that ultimately helped me motivate myself into doing a bunch of contests and placing in a few. I don't think I would have been as motivated as I am now for my future without first becoming interested in writing in your class. So this is my short thank you note! I hope that you found me to be a good student and good person during my time in class. I know that you haven't seen me in class since then so it would be difficult to comment on my growth, but I can say that since then I have really tried to improve my prose and actually make use of it for things I'm interested in rather than for just school assignments. Now I write for two small student science publications outside of school! Although I am still shy, I'm trying to be more open. Overall, I have changed a lot since freshman year, so please don't think that I am as timid as I was in class! I'm attaching a short resume of relevant info as well as link you the official Recommendation Guidelines if you need it. Also, I will not be reading the letter since you would send it directly to the scholarship
