Coolidge Scholarship Essay

I hope you have been having a good school year and a nice holiday break!

I have some exciting news. I'm applying for the Coolidge Scholarship which is a scholarship that covers the costs of all four years of undergraduate education for students who are crazy overqualified in everything. I'm not one of them unfortunately, but there are a bunch of smaller awards attached to the scholarship that I am aiming for, including the awards/titles "Coolidge Senator" and "Coolidge Finalist" for good candidates but not the ultimate winners. This is a fantastic opportunity for me as I could really use the scholarship, this would look great for college, and the opportunity itself is great; if I place in any capacity I get a cool free trip down to Washington,

So I would love to have you as my recommender. I have to credit your 9th grade English class for the majority of my interests and academic drive; it was what got me to first enjoy writing rather than to see it as another task or assignment, and that ultimately helped me motivate myself into doing a bunch of contests and placing in a few. I don't think I would have been as motivated as I am now for my future without first becoming interested in writing in your class. So this is my short thank you note! I hope that you found me to be a good student and good person during my time in class. I know that you haven't seen me in class since then so it would be difficult to comment on my growth, but I can say that since then I have really tried to improve my prose and actually make use of it for things I'm interested in rather than for just school assignments. Now I write for two small student science publications outside of school! Although I am still shy, I'm trying to be more open. Overall, I have changed a lot since freshman year, so please don't think that I am as timid as I was in class! I'm attaching a short resume of relevant info as well as link you the official Recommendation Guidelines if you need it. Also, I will not be reading the letter since you would send it directly to the scholarship

One of my proudest moments was hearing my name called at Midwestern State University to receive my Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. As I looked across the room and saw the tears streaming down my mom’s face it I couldn’t help but choke up.…

I joined my first choir in seventh grade. It was the school’s seventh grade choir and it had about a hundred kids in it. I enjoyed being there so much that the thought of the arts just stuck. Since then I have been in four choirs (all school funded) and two musicals. Though I know I do not have the most experience and my abilities are still shaky, music continues to be a big part of my life.…

The values and standards of National Honor Society are the four important pillars of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. A person needs to represent all four pillars to uphold the honor of National Honor Society, just like a table with four legs must balance a table. I have developed through the years to be a strong leader, holding the table of scholarship, leadership, service, and character and I would be so very honored to hold this leadership with National Honor Society. Scholarship is holding myself to a high standard, academically and socially. I display a strong sense of scholarship as I have maintained the Highest Honor Roll each grade of my High School career, Middle School and even Elementary School, I love to learn!…

I decided to attend Florida A&M University (FAMU) for a variety of reasons, including the location of its campus, because I was offered a full scholarship, and of course, because of the pharmacy program. Moreover, I believe that I am the ideal candidate for being a part of FAMU’s pharmacy program. To begin, FAMU is located in Tallahassee, Florida, a city that I had wanted to attend college in since I was in elementary school. Tallahassee is a city of containing and surrounded by many events and opportunities, so no matter your preferred “scene,” you are likely to be able to find something you do. Another upside to FAMU’s location is that it also places me very close to my mother and the rest of my maternal family, who I had previously not gotten to see almost since elementary school.…

On the first day of my 4th period Pre-AP Social Science class, my teacher announced that she would be nominating 2 students for a scholarship based on their academic performance and service to the community. For an 8th grader, this seemed to be the most exciting opportunity I had ever heard of. It would allow some separation from my ultracompetitive classmates at one of the top middle schools in California. Even though history was not my forte, I devised a regimen that I would follow. I studied everyday afterschool, spent hours upon hours on projects, and never turned in an assignment without checking it over 3 times.…

While attending Oklahoma City University, I plan to study Religion / Youth Ministry so that I may acquire the tools necessary to help youth grow in their everyday lives as well as their faith.
