Cool Hand Luke: the act of conforming outside of society to create a persona of an outlaw. Starring academy award winning Paul Newman, Cool Hand Luke starts off by setting the tone for the entire movie. Luke Jackson, was arrested for destroying municipal property while under the influence of alcohol. This lead him to be sentenced two years in a road prison, in a chain gang. Many argue that his sentence was worse then his minor offence.…
Cool Hand Luke is a 1967 film that portrays the experiences of a prisoner who refuses to adhere to the orders given to him in jail. This inmate Luke’s rebellious behaviour is in opposition with the general sense of conformity illustrated by the other prisoners. An individual can choose to conform and be obedient to authority, or to be non-compliant which can result in severe punishment. This paper will examine how conformity and obedience are strictly enforced and how non-conformity is punished in Cool Hand Luke through the social psychological themes of obedience to authority, conformity, and non-conformity. Obedience to authority is a theme that is frequently expressed through the inmates in the film.…

God’s and Generals depiction of Civil War On November 19, 1863 President Abraham Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address after the ending of the Gettysburg War, which ended the Civil War as a whole. It can be said that the Civil War erupted due to the disagreement between states as it relates to slavery. The Gettysburg War was fought between the Union (the North) and the Confederates (the South). The Union wanted to do away with slavery and let African Americans have choices on where, how, and who they worked for while the confederates were content with slavery. "Wanted" is basically from a comic book that has limited series written by Mark Miller and J.G Jones, it is about an amoral protagonist (Wesley Gibson) who is discovered as the heir of super assassin. Russian director, Timur Bekmambetov, he is the cream of the crop, he turns this comic into a movie that make the viewers not sit still and make their adrenaline and cortisone levels spike with the actions. Bekmambetov used the similar style of shots and angles with his previous movie, Night watch. It's more to wide angle (long shot), so we can see the terrifying background like one of the scenes in the torture room, where Wes has been beaten up by the butcher. Not even that, there are many special effects that Bekmambetov applies in this movie, like slow-motion with sound effects that certainly provides that "ouch" reaction from audiences.…
Magic Mike XXL This film which is a follow up to the prequel titled “Magic Mike” has been a recipient of mixed reviews by critics. The controversies are as a result of its explicit nature of the kind of life portrayed by the film through its characterization of both men and women. Some critics might claim that the film objectifies men while promoting body standards which are not realistic, however, in a different view, the men in the film are not just about their bodies but rather their personality too. The men are actually feminine to some extent when it comes to their personality.…
A central theme evident on urban education is the importance of the arts in education. The arts consist of many disciplines such as music, dance, and theatre. Arts education is crucial in the development of the youth through both critical skills and creativity. The benefits of the arts include motor skills, language development, decision-making, visual learning, cultural awareness, and an overall improvement in academics (Lynch, 2012).…
my personal favorite story is the story of Star Wars, but not just the movie, the story of how a ragtag team of film makers made an amazing classic still alive today. The story of star wars begins in the California home of George Lucas where he began to capture the romance and adventure that he saw in old movies that he watched as a young boy as well as the heroics of the great Flash Gordon TV series. so george began to write the script for a screenplay that would one day be known as "Star Wars" Before George along with a crew of over 100 men and women could begin this interstellar epic they would need people to play the roles of the characters. The young hero, Luke Skywalker was played by Mark Hamil, a newbie to show business. the mentor and guide of the hero is the old and wise member of a long forgotten order of knights know as the Jedi, his name is Obi-Wan Kenobi played by Sir Alec Guiness.…
Artistic expressions, such as film, have the capacity to influence the perception of both our past and present. Mass media has been constantly validating how powerful ideas are. There is just a great amount of authority gained just by having something presented in the channels of media. All that it takes is a powerful production. The art form of illustration and film is effective in three things.…
The science fiction film based on a novel by Ernest Cline - Ready Player One, has the American director and producer Steven Spielberg planning to leave himself out of the cutting room floor. Ready Player One is a thriller about a kid on a high-stakes treasure hunt, by going through a virtual reality world made in a society that's been preoccupied with '80s pop culture. And even before Steven Spielberg signed on to helm the film version of the book by Ernest Cline, the director was all over the story. But Steven Spielberg wants one exception.…
Forrest Gump is a film that defies the conventions of filmmaking, and in that sense it is difficult to do a typical analysis of the film. It’s not so much that the film is overly complicated or that reality is always in question or any art house tricks of that kind; it’s just that Gump doesn’t really follow any rules. We begin with the most obvious: the plot. This is a film that should have redefined the biopic. It is completely about the life and times of Forrest, the protagonist, in fact through it all that’s the only thing it’s consistently about.…
