Hand Luke and Shawshank Redemption, one can discover that through drinking issues of each character that prison is in fact obviously terrible. However, with the fact that prison does also come to an end for some the friendships and plans that are made, are forever lasting. After reading the review of this Shawshank Redemption it can be seen that Shmoop,an analytical website for films and novels, gave a great and in depth presentation of it. Looking at the review in an analytical point of view, Shmoop hits this spot on by explaining the symbols and themes seen throughout the film. One of these being the Library and the Bible. Shmoop explains the Library as being a sort of “gift” it also says it was a “ place of safety apart from the cell block, where Andy could be himself with his books and accounts”. The second symbol, being the bible is also expressed throughout the film by also being expressed by, for example the warden of the prison telling the main character, Andy, that “salvation lies within”. However Andy’s thoughts on salvation and the warden's views on salvation are seen as two different subjects. The warden takes this quote in a literal way while Andy on the other hand, sees his salvation as “his means of escape, safely out of reach of the inspections” (Shmoop). The theme of The Shawshank Redemption, is summed up as friendship bonds. This is actually a contradiction because of the sole fact of Luke not making it, but making it in a sense. Luke’s plan is set up in a way of fitting in by gambling, and gaining the trust of his fellow mates. This is then destroyed with his many attempts of escape bringing one to how their plans were different; Luke was caught and executed. Andy then showed viewers his successful plan by crawling through the sewers, and moving to Mexico. He then turned his freedom into success by essentially taking down the prison by exposing the warden. Another large difference between the films are the outcomes of each by Cool Hand Luke ending sorrowfully with his death , but Shawshank Redemption ends satisfyingly with both Red and Andy’s freedom.
Conclusion:
In conclusion each of these movies are related to one another in ways that are within the characters, as well as having their differences represented through actions. Within Shawshank Redemption there are more similarities regarding the personalities with each of the characters from each film. These similarities are also found in Cool Hand Luke through personality as well. The plots also shown throughout each paragraph as different, but similar. Lastly, the outcomes and symbols seen throughout the films are brought up showing their similarities and
