Cookie Monstar’s Desserts and Ice Cream is a family owned dessert and Ice Cream shop. The shop is located in Virginia Beach, Virginia, adjacent to the main entrance of Naval Air Station Oceana. This family owned business originated from an in home family kitchen that provided homemade family deserts and ice cream to local military families of deployed service members. These hand crafted desserts and ice cream flavors are popular during the holidays, special occasions and peak tourist’s season. The use of fresh ingredients in the shops products and friendly customer service has raised the shop’s reputation. Cookie Monstar’s attracts locals and tourist that desire homemade desserts and ice cream that fill sweet tooth satisfaction beyond being just satisfied. When faced with advancing in technology, there is an added pressure amongst small business owners to meet the demands of customers; these customers assume there is an ability to work with any business via internet (Sleeter, 2014). Because many customers expect to use the internet to learn about a business, place product orders, and complete transactions online without the hassle of phone conversations or driving (Sleeter, 2014). Cookie Monstars is able to meet this demand, but there is a bigger opportunity to advance technologies. The business currently has the capabilities to expand the payment system to include additional ways a customer can purchase products. This advance in technology will meet the demands of customers that have forced businesses to adapt to accepting payments via PayPal and mobile swipe cards (Sleeter, 2014).
