Some people understand that abortion ends a life, and that it is indeed murder, others don’t see that the termination of a pregnancy is the termination of a life. While there are many reasons people will give for being pro-life or pro-choice, a common pro-life factor is standing up for the child and for the sanctity of life, defending the defenseless because murder is in no cases acceptable. On the other hand, a pro-choice person might not have a strong conviction against the act, or they may believe that abortion needs to be available to victims of rape & incest or if the pregnancy threatens the mother’s life, but abortion is murder.

A few weeks ago while sitting in my chemistry class, from across the room, I heard a classmate sharing his own made up “facts” about abortion. He said that an abortion will kill only two cells, while getting a cut on your finger will kill hundreds. This absolutely astounded me; because within the first three weeks of conception these “two cells” have developed a beating heart, a spine, a nervous system, and a brain. At six weeks the baby’s brain waves are recorded, and between two and three months the baby is completely sensitive to touch, can make all facial expressions, and can suck his or her little thumb.
