Currently, when someone is incarcerated and wants treatment, the procedure is to get accepted into a rehab facility and request a furlough from the court. If the court grants the furlough they are released to the facility and given a return date. Reviews are set to check the status of the defendant's progress. Once completed, if successful, the defendant is usually given credit for time in rehab against their sentence. If everything goes according to plan this is how it works.
