The actors and chorus would sing and dance accordingly to the situation. They used singing and dancing as a way to show emotions of the characters. On the other hand, they would also speak in dialogues in order to drive the plot. There needs to be a balance between singing and dialogue because tragedy is highly emotional and plot driven. Also, the actors would wear masks as a way to portray the character. The masks gave ancient dramas an advantage, so the identity of characters were visible, and a person can play more than one role in the drama. Overall, Ancient Tragic dramas used the same format, but a different story and plot.
Oedipus the King by Sophocles was an example of an Ancient Tragic Drama that followed the Grecian format: including actors, choruses, songs, dances, dialogues, and masks. Oedipus the King is about a man the King of Thebes who experiences disastrous events to the people of Thebes.
