These organisms are created by the removal or insertion of certain genes to make the organism more useful to humans. Scientists are able to make apples that do not brown, potatoes that vaccinate people from the flu, and even plants that can survive in salt water. These GMOs are currently helping to improve life all around the world yet still there is controversy. In spite of the claim that GMOs are harmful to the environment, GMO’s are actually beneficial to the environment and to the animals that live in it, they help the economies of the countries that use them, and they will eventually end world hunger and malnutrition. GMOs help the environment more than comes to eye, and one of the ways they …show more content…
People say GMOs have not been tested enough because we are now just hearing about them. However, modern day GMOs have been present since 1996 and George Washington experimented with genetics when he crossed his apple trees. Also, some people say that GMOs hurt the economy because countries will not want to trade with us or have bans on genetic products. Eventually, with the success we have accumulated in GMOs the countries will have to lift restrictions. Countries will not be able to produce enough food for their people or will realize the effects on the environment and will have to play catch up when it comes to GMOs. Finally, people worry that the genes from GMOs will spread into other crops destroying biodiversity. Only two studies out of the thousands have shown that with minimal evidence and flaws in their procedure due to improper barriers and suspicion the data was changed. The two studies were discredited and eventually dismissed by the scientific community however people still like to point to them when it fits their

GMO’s stands for “genetically modified organisms,” these are strands of DNA that have been modified to help benefit the plant in some form such as making the plant immune to certain diseases or to help the plant grow larger. Arguments in favor of genetically modified organisms include reasons such as the ability to use fewer pesticides because the crop has been modified to be resistant to certain insects. Another argument in favor of GMOs is that the crop is able to grow in more harsh conditions allowing a larger amount of land to be used and benefiting areas that do not have the best conditions to grow food. Increased yields is a benefit seen from introducing genetically modified crops, this is seen as beneficial because with an increased…

Cody Mertz Mrs. Bauch 8th Block 16 May 2016 Did you know that using genetically modified organisms decreases the amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide, which decreases the risk of global warming. Not using GMOs will increase the use of pesticides, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and fertilizers. Today, I will try to persuade you why GMOs should be used in everyday farming. GMO is short for Genetically Modified Organism, which means that food and drink are injected with a genetically modified organism to give the food or drink a certain flavor or taste that it cannot make itself. But there are reasons for genetically modifying organisms because it can help for the betterment of mankind or it could just be for further learning the science of GMOs. In my opinion I think that GMOs are bad for the economy because of the many bad possibilities that could come from it. Even though GMOs are thoroughly tested there are many health risks that can cause humanity to be in a world epidemic.…
