Pro Death Penalty
The death penalty, also known as capital punishment, is the killing of a criminal put on death row. There has been much controversy over the matter of the death penalty. Many see it as cruel and the rest see it as the perfect punishment, but if you had a sister that was raped and then decapitated, wouldn’t you find it just to have the person responsible killed? This paper is here to tell you why the death penalty should stay.
According to the article, the death penalty “death penalty deters criminals from committing serious offenses.” ("The Pros and Cons of the Death Penalty"). Seeing as how most human beings fear death, the death penalty is good for keeping people from doing heinous crimes. The Constitution allows the death penalty in “appropriate cases.” So not all crimes are worthy of death, but the debate over this topic still rages on with strong opinions on both sides. Also note that in some prisons you can get a free education! “Innocents are killed by wrong judgement!” ("The Pros and Cons of the Death Penalty."). This is the argument of many. 1987, November 1st: It was a Sunday night. Seventeen-year-old Romano’s sister, Dawn Garvin, had been killed. Nobody knew of it yet until the father went to her house to check on her because she wasn’t answering her phone. Dawn was a newlywed (with her husband on a navy base) found “beaten, tortured, mutilated, and dead. To murder victims' families, executing killers is justice." Steven Howard Oken was the one found guilty of this crime and Romano wanted him dead. He didn’t want this because of revenge or closure, he wanted justice. Romano’s wife Vikki says: "Revenge would be going out and killing one of [the murderer's] family members," "The death penalty isn't revenge. It's the law. To murder victims' families, executing killers is justice."
