Some experiments include injecting or force feeding animals, exposing animals to radiation, surgically removing organs and tissue, forcing to inhale toxins and subjecting animals to forceful situations. One well known advocate group is People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). PETA is the largest animals rights organization in the world, with more than 6.5 million members and supporters (Testing). PETA’s goal is to “focus its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: in the food industry, in the clothing trade, in laboratories, and in entertainment industry.” (Testing). One of the largest global campaigns to end animal testing for cosmetics is the Be Cruelty-Free campaign launched by the Human Society of the United States and Humane Society International. Outside the United States, “the campaign is being launched from HSI office in Australia, Canada, Europe and India, with scientific outreach programs in several developing cosmetic markets.” (Fact). The goal of the campaign is to force a change that aims to create awareness of consumers and the political momentum needed to achieve a end to animal testing for beauty and personal care products worldwide (Fact).
