Every person has a dream or a goal in life. This dream might start in childhood, during high school, or maybe during college. All these dreams start with motivation or a spark that guides an individual and makes the path clear for them. My goal is to become a doctor of medicine. It might seem vague because there are many types of doctors but I am interested in all of them because they all of them involve saving people’s lives. It started in 2013 when the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) took action that included long-overdue rules to reduce foodborne illness. These rules were basically directed to farmers. Ryan Jaslow, a journalist for CBSN, talked about this issue in his article “Medical controversies sparking debate in 2014.” Ryan talked about the FDA actions by saying that, “The rules required farmers to take precautions against contamination, such as ensuring that workers' hands are washed, irrigation water is clean, and animals stay out of fields” (Jaslow). Ryan also talks more about what the FDA is trying to do to prevent foodborne illnesses by saying, “the FDA announced plans to reduce antibiotics in meat in an effort to make Americans safer by curbing antibiotic resistance in the United States. The agency asked pharmaceutical companies to voluntarily change the labeling on these drugs so they would no longer be used for livestock production purposes” (Jaslow). Although this step is encouraging, there is a small chance that the pharmaceutical companies would “voluntarily” stop using antibiotics on the animals. They are making money out of it, and if no regulations are imposed against them, they will not stop.
