The U.S Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has filed 15 lawsuits against Wal-Mart since 1994, 10 are pending and 5 have been resolved (Ferrell, Fraedrich & Ferrell, 2013). In 2004 a San Francisco Judge granted class-action status to a sex-discrimination lawsuit against Wal-Mart, which claims that Wal-Mart discriminated against women in promotions, pay, training, and job assignments. Wal-Mart experienced several lawsuits for violating the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and for failing to monitor work conditions overseas. These lawsuits included violating storm-water regulations, violating storm-water management practices, violating air-quality restrictions, and violating the hazardous waste regulations, most of which Wal-Mart settled out of court agreeing to pay penalties and implement a plan for these concerns. Other environmental issues include the stress newly constructed Wal-Mart stores has on city’s, acres of green space used to construct Wal-Mart stores, and the empty unused Wal-Mart facilities.
