If you wake up drinking coffee, or not you should know the benefits and disadvantages. Coffee has many non beneficial attributes and should be avoided. While coffee may you smarter. The caffeine is addictive and the withdrawal can be a real source of anxiety and discomfort. Drinking coffee in the morning can affect the natural production of cortisol, and increased risk of heart attacks among young adults. A simple brewed coffee at starbucks can be up to 415 mg of caffeine.Although there’s evidence to suggest that a morning cup of coffee can positively influence health. This undermines the caffeine's effect and tends to lead people to build a tolerance for the drug, then destroying the effects of caffeine. “Our bodies produce a hormone called cortisol, which has been branded the "stress hormone," because it tends to appear when we are either stressed or fearful” (One medical). That same hormone is also a part of our natural, day-long hormonal cycle known as the circadian clock which helps wake us up in the morning and make us tired at night. “The gist is that when our body releases cortisol, we feel more awake” ( independent). There are two problems drinking coffee when cortisol production is high. Caffeine interferes with the production of cortisol. The body produces less of the hormone and relies on the caffeine. Second drinking coffee while cortisol is high leads us to a long-term tolerances for caffeine. “Caffeine replaces the boost we would ordinarily get from cortisol rather than supplementing it” …show more content…
These claims have some evidence behind them, “by blocking the inhibitory effects of Adenosine, caffeine actually increases neuronal firing in the brain and the release of other neurotransmitters like dopamine and norepinephrine” ( Authority Nutrition). This may make you smarter but from blocking of adenosine is not something someone would want to do because of the effects of caffeine dependence and withdrawal of caffeine.
