Are People Born Good Or Bad Essay

Much can be said about this prevalent topic, as most people would agree. Controversial topics such as these are often found frequently in debates. Some might argue that people are born bad. We are, in ways, not so different with the Romans and their fascination with blood and gore. If people were born good, then why would there be wars, famine, poverty and countless other things. Babies, a blank clean slate, uninfluenced by the world. Neutral. But even though they are not affected by the outside world, babies continue to show signs of narcissism, crying when not given a yearned object, whether it be a snack or a sweet. This can potentially be from the parents, doting on the children, giving them everything they want. However, a researcher has conducted an experiment involving various situations where the baby can chose to be selfish and do something for their own gain or help others even when it was inconvenient and offered no reward. Most of the babies chose to go with the latter. There are no babies born with intentions to harm or to cause pain. Kids are generally innocent until they are exposed to the world. Parents are the ones that project fear into them, teaching them what to fear. The parents are the molds of the children. They teach them to fear heights, fires etc. without realising. They become good or bad by the way they were raised or what they learn from society. We feel the necessity to be good, and sometimes to be bad because that is how we were raised but not everyone is entirely bad. We need at least a small percentage of good in us. Criminals are mostly raised in bad environments, sometime learning to steal at a young age. But they’re not entirely bad. They most certainly weren’t born like that, they were raised to survive, to be like that. The exception being a mental illness. Your upbringing shapes your nature.
