Controlled drugs are used to treat moderate to severe pain. Short-acting formulations are taken as needed for pain. For example Morphine used before the surgery.
Morphine and Codeine, are the most powerful pain treatments. These usually are reserved for the most intense pain.
Why been prohibited to use by individuals?
These drugs have schedule and prohibit to use because it has high potential for abuse, with use potentially leading to dependence.
They can cause serious side effects, can be addictive and often cause constipation. Other drugs such as anesthetics. And also called controlled medicines for specific conditions, such as pain relief in palliative care, but can't prescribe controlled drugs for treating addiction, such as diamorpine and cocaine.
