Control In Romeo And Juliet

Decent Essays
I believe all the characters in the story had control over their own destiny. Some of the characters like Romeo and Juliet just thought idiotically and got themselves killed since they didn’t communicate properly. They could have just ran away and let their 2 families fight it out on their own.

Nurse says "Romeo can, Though heaven cannot. O Romeo, Romeo, Whoever would have thought it? Romeo!" (3.2.46) Juliet assumed something bad happened to Romeo so she tried to kill herself instead of trying to figure out on her own if something did happen to him.

Other people like Tybalt and Mercutio could have avoided all of the drama and violence and not have gotten themselves killed and not have been rude and viscous like Tybalt towards the Montagues.

Distinguished citizens of excellent Verona. I, Friar Lawrence, a pious and sanctified man, confront you today to hereby inform you that, although I did the least, I am under the most suspicion and scrutiny, as I was the last witness prior to the murder. You may question and punish me, but I have already condemned myself and been forgiven (Act 5 Scene 3, 223-227). I have been accused of allowing illicit substances, and manslaughter of two people, however I have honestly and sincerely had pure intentions. However, in order to help Juliet through her "grief" over Tybalt's death, Capulet decides to marry her off to Paris (III, iv). Of course this is a problem as she is secretly married to Romeo at this time. In III, v, Lady Capulet states, "I'll send one in Mantua, where that same banished runagate doth live, that he shall soon keep Tybalt company…" (ll94-96). This statement prophesizes Romeo's death later in the final scene of the play. Then, Lady Capulet wishes her daughter to be married to her grave (ll. 145), which is ironic, as Juliet will take a potion causing her to appear dead in IV, ii. That same evening, the lovers consummate their marriage, and in the morning, Juliet makes yet another prophesy, "O God, I have an ill-divining soul!…

The central theme of this text is the importance of human intimacy. When the audience is first introduced to Baron de Coutelier, he is described as a man with “only one insatiable passion, love of sport” (Maupassant 856). As a result of this obsession, he spends every single day of his life outside hunting both birds and animals in the woods, rather than socializing with others. Additionally, it was explained that he “spoke of nothing but shooting and hunting, he (even) dreamed of it” (Maupassant 856). This intense dedication to sport that has segregated Baron de Coutelier from the outside world has ultimately begun to deteriorate him both mentally and physically, which Maupassant demonstrates multiple times throughout the story.…

Many people have said “If two people truly love each other, they will find a way to make it work.” This quote is a prime example of how Romeo and Juliet would do anything to make it work between them. The story “Romeo and Juliet”, authored by Shakespeare, shows how two people loved each other so much that they would rather take their own lives before living without each other because Juliet’s dad was too strict, forced her to marry a man she didn’t love, and drove her to fake her death. Because Romeo and Juliet both died, Lord Capulet should be blamed and punished. One of the reasons Lord Capulet should be punished is because he was way too hard and strict on Juliet, which made her confused.…
