- There are many different factors that contribute to vulnerability. The most common are based upon race, ability, gender, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and age. Although these may be the most common, it can be determined that anyone can become vulnerable depending on the environment around them. It is important for social workers to be knowledgeable and aware of contributing factors leading to or causing an individual to become vulnerable. It is also important for social workers to advocate for vulnerable clients to help eliminate the stigmatizations that negatively affect these clients.
