While attending Colorado State University, I want to engage and be involved in many different groups and communities as a great way to interact with other students with various backgrounds and learn from each other. Also, I will be able to have an excellent relationship with my professors because I will learn to interact with numerous diverse people. I have been attending the Denver Center of International Studies at Montbello for the last four years and come from a place that is primarily Hispanic and African American. I have been living in the same town since I was born, and this has made me more dedicated to branch out and see other cultures outside of Denver. There is much to explore and serve to the new community at CSU. Furthermore, there will be plentiful of opportunities in college to engage with multiple communities, something that I personally have been foreign to, but know that I can bring something to the table. There is a lot to do in the campus and I will find a place that I can express myself and learn from people and their culture. …show more content…

Every year we travel to my mother’s hometown and stay for weeks at a time, occasionally taking excursions to other countries and Europe. Nevertheless, I was exposed to a bigger world, and I was able to live and experience what my mother had. I grew up running down cobblestone streets through a small town in Germany, Lemwerder, where I was able to see a completely different culture than the United States. I believe that growing up with two distinct cultures, I developed into a person with differing opinions and a much broader view. As a part of NC State’s community, I would not only be able to share the traditions I grew up with, but also learn from other students and how their culture has impacted their lives, as well.…

When considering an institution I found diversity to be an important factor to take into account, essentially drawing me to NYU. In an environment where people of varying backgrounds come together and join there different minds and perspectives, the mind is bound to become more open. I believe this sort of setting is beneficial as it prepares you for the real world with a better view and understanding of others. College is the ideal place for individuals to grow and to connect, but I feel NYU specially would encourage me to continue becoming a well-rounded individual not only as a student but as a successful member of…

I lead my life according to the belief that, success is a measure of our perceived reality. We are what we think, and in many socially oppressed communities, barriers toward living a whole, productive, successful life is beyond the grasp for many. Social justice acts as voice for communities held back by systems of oppression, and works to dismantle systems, allowing disadvantaged groups the opportunity to reach their most successful life. Given the opportunity to be chosen to represent the transgender community means to me, being accountable to oppressed communities, the transgender community of Oregon, and beyond. I have grown up in a country and time where progress has been definitive. It has been in the time that my feet imprinted this earth and my lungs breathed this air that the Supreme Court has passed a bill for marriage equality and in the last eight years my nation has elected the first man of color to lead our democracy. It is that man who has helped to cut carbon emissions while making true strides for equality. Equality is not found in the darkness of segregated spaces or within the confines of comfort.
