Contraction: A Complex System

An abstraction is the process of thinking of something independently of its association, attributes, or concrete accompaniments. In other words it’s taking a complex system like a computer, automobile or a weapon, and removing the complex parts that make the system function, and only thinking about the basics. People often use abstract systems without even thinking about it, one does not need to know how or why something works in order to use it daily. For instance, for one to use a weapon, one only needs to know that you must pull the trigger to fire the weapon. As well as, taking the safety off before firing the weapon. When somebody pulls the trigger they don’t think about how and why the round is fired. A rifle would be considered a complex system since, a user only thinks about it as squeezing a trigger and that’s it. In other words, no bullet, un-cocked and safety mechanism is on. So the only way for the user to fire the weapon is to cock the gun, which puts a round in the chamber and then this would put the weapon in condition one. So in order to cock the weapon one must rack the slide to place a round in to the chamber before ready to fire. Condition 4 would be classified as clear and safe. Which means no round in chamber, no magazine in the weapon, hammer down, and slide locked to the rear with the safety on. So there is no way to fire the weapon unless you put a magazine into the weapon, rack the weapon and pull the trigger. With that cleared up, there is a lot that happens inside the weapon when the user does decide that he/she is ready to fire the weapon.
