Through appropriate communicating additional problem-solving skills are developed. This allows for the staff members to be better equipped to resolve conflict in non- threating or violent ways. Children experience violence in their everyday life in all the media and society they may come in contact, if they are able to see an adult model appropriate skills to resolve issues, they themselves learn to resolve their conflicts without violence which can lead to a more productive society. Conflict and problem-solving require skills and strategies of assertion skills, awareness of ourselves, and collaboration to problem-solve. As I expressed in the training lesson, Chu states “acknowledge the problem exists, define the problem together; investigate possible solutions to solve the problem; examine pros and cons of each possible solution; agree on something to try; and determine a time to come back and evaluate the actions taken” (Chu 69). It is through positive communication that we are taught and can be taught that handling a problem does not have to be through violence, by articulating feelings and expressing the situation with others, the problems that arise are worked through as easily as the problem …show more content…
We teach and are taught daily many things, if we quite learning then our society becomes non-flourishing. “Practice-focused interactions, those involved examine the process and overall structure of programs to see if the student and the teacher are experiencing the powerful learning associated with effective professional development.” (Chu, p. 81). It is through our vigilance of educating ourselves and others that provides additional learning experiences to grow and be nurtured by. All children need to learn, and it is through our examples of positive responses to verbal and non-verbal cues that we teach them every day. Our understanding of those cues is important for the reinforcement of close, healthy, and secure relationships with the families of the children we care for, since they are every day learning from the adults in their lives, whether it be a family member or someone they come in contact with.
Communication is the basis for the foundation of all things we learn and express. If we teach and are taught as young children that our words and body language say a lot to others conflicts may be able to be minimal.
